Production of crude oil and lease condensate in the U.S. fell for the third consecutive year during 1988, averaging 8,115,800 bpd or 259,600 bpd below 1987 levels. This article discusses how, if the trend continues (and currently, there is no reason that it shouldn't), production this year should average below 8 million bpd for the first time since 1965.
