Two strains of E. coli cultures in various cell dilutions were treated with uv and gamma radiation. Repair of DNA following uv radiation was determined by molecular weight changes of DNA. Survival curves following gamma radiation showed that the prv/sub 1/ mutation increases the radioresistance of the bacteria by 30 to 40 percent. Data on changes in molecular weight demonstrated that the prv/sub 1/ mutation causes an increase in the effectiveness of excision repair. (HLW)
