Variation in the flux of the quasar 3C 380 at 408 MHz

Journal Article · · Astrophysics (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:7259118
Regular observations at 408 MHz were made in order to establish variability in the flux of the quasar 3C 380, which is variable at higher frequencies. The ratio of the amplitudes of the 3C 380 and 3C 405 traces during the initial phase of observation was very different from the other values. At the end of 1972 and beginning of 1973 there was in all probability an explosion in 3C 380, this being responsible for the growth of the flux density from this source by approximately 30 percent at 408 MHz. The enhanced emission lasted about six months. (JFP)
