Levels of isotopes /sup 233/ /sup 235/ /sup 237/Pa and /sup 229/ /sup 231/Ac studied by the (t,. cap alpha. ) reaction. [15 MeV; cross sections, DWBA]

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev., C; (United States)
The /sup 234/U(t,..cap alpha..)/sup 233/Pa, /sup 236/U(t,..cap alpha..)/sup 235/Pa, /sup 238/U(t,..cap alpha..)/sup 237/Pa, /sup 230/Th(t,..cap alpha..)/sup 229/Ac, and /sup 232/Th(t,..cap alpha..)/sup 231/Ac reactions were studied with a 15-MeV triton beam. The reaction results are interpreted in terms of a distorted-wave--Born-approximation analysis. Theoretical cross sections, calculated in the framework of the Nilsson model with pairing and Coriolis interactions included, are compared with experimental values. The following Nilsson proton configurations are identified in all of the residual nuclei: 1/2/sup +/(400),3/2/sup +/(402), 3/2/sup +/(651), 1/2/sup -/(530). The 1/2/sup -/(541) and 9/2/sup -/(514) configurations are tentatively assigned. Due to the increase in deformation with neutron number, the ground state configuration of the Pa isotopes changes from 3/2/sup -/(530) to 1/2/sup +/(400) as A increases.
