Progress is reported on the following studies: use of sensitive nitrocellulose filter assay for studies on APNH (acidic proteins with nucleohistonic affinity) interaction with DNA in vitro; effect of APNH on the melting temperature of synthetic poly d(A-T); DNA-affinity chromatography of APNH; isolation of a subfraction of APNH that binds to the DNA matrix; and DNA unwinding function of nonhistone chromatin protein.
