OPEC oil price enhances U. S. geothermal development

Journal Article · · World Oil; (United States)
OSTI ID:7249760
Higher costs of imported oil have caused the price for geothermal steam to more than double in two years, greatly enhancing economics of geothermal development. And, considering the demonstated ability of OPEC to maintain strong world crude prices and the slow materialization of other domestic alternate energy sources, it is expected that future prices for geothermal steam will continue to be attractive. A general appraisal of the U.S. geothermal energy picture is presented, which tells why geothermal development is attractive at this time; some specific comments are included on evaluating reserves and operating economics in The Geysers geothermal area of California.
