The interim report to Congress is in response to section 112(n) of the 1990 Amendments to the Clean Air Act (the Act). Its purpose is to present to Congress a discussion of the activities to date and the planned activities that will lead to the submittal to Congress of the study of electric utility emissions. Section 112(n) (1) (A) mandates that the EPA perform a study, to be presented in a Report to Congress, of the hazards to public health reasonably anticipated to occur as a result of emissions of the hazardous air pollutants (HAPs), listed under section 112(b), by fossil fuel-fired electric utility steam generating units, after imposition of the requirements of the 1990 Amendments.
