A report is given as part of a series of studies dealing with general public behavior and attitudes towards energy conservation. It concentrates on energy consumption and attitudes of the poor and elderly, and includes respondents aged 50 or over, those having under $7,000 family income, and those who are 50 and over with incomes under $7,000. Survey questions included the following elements: seriousness of the energy shortage; length and severity of the energy shortage; real vs. contrived energy shortage; personal conservation efforts and their impact on total consumption of energy; attitudes toward specific government policies; changes in shopping habits as a result of inflation; cash payments vs. charging; means of transportation; and personal effects of the energy shortage.
