Superstring field theory

We describe the construction of a class of cubic gauge-invariant actions for superstring field theory, and the gauge-fixing of one representative. Fermion string fields are taken in the {minus}{1/2}-picture and boson string fields in the 0-picture, which makes a picture-changing insertion carrying picture number {minus}2 necessary. The construction of all such operators is outlined. We discuss the gauge b{sub 1} + b{sub {minus}1} = 0, in which the action formally linearizes. Nontrivial scattering amplitudes are obtained by approaching this gauge as a limit. 20 refs.
