Solving ordinary differential equations for simulation

Criteria for choosing a method for the numerical solution of ordinary differential equations for simulation problems are outlined. Then two kinds of Runge--Kutta formulas which are particularly efficient at doing those things expected at Runge--Kutta formulas are presented. These formulas perform better than do the Adams methods. Pairs of third- and fourth-order Runge--Kutta formulas are discussed. (RWR)
