HeLa cells were irradiated in a solution of 0.02 percent versene and were precipitated from the solution by centrifuging. Methods for calculating the sedimentation coefficient of DNA and the molecular weight of double-stranded DNA are described. Graphs are presented to show sedimentation profiles of DNA of irradiated and unirradiated cells. Evidence for rejoining of double breaks of DNA during incubation is presented. Caffeine had no influence on the repair of double breaks of DNA irradiated at 20 krad. (HLW)
