Cathodic protection with reduced wave load features for an offshore steel jacket

This paper reports on the Oseberg field which is located in the northern part of the North Sea. The field operator is Norsk Hydro on behalf of the partners Norsk Hydro, Statoil, Saga, Mobil, Elf, and Total. The Oseberg C jacket was installed at the offshore site in June 1990. The produced oil is piped to the field center (Oseberg A and B) for further transport to Norway. The Oseberg C steel jacket is an eight-legged jacket with a design life of 25 years. Considerable efforts were made to reduce weight and wave load, including the corrosion protection system. Bracelet anodes were used in the wave-affected zone to reduce wave load, and approximately 80 percent of the jacket is coated to reduce sacrificial anode weight.
