Modulation of diode lasers

The modulation characteristics of continuous wave diode lasers are reviewed with a view to identifying present limitations on their performance. Double-heterostructure diodes of gallium--aluminum arsenides fabricated in a stripe geometry are stressed, because such devices are the most developed for optical-fiber systems. (MHR)
