M1 transitions in spherical nuclei. [Theory of finie Fermi systems]
The properties of the M1 resonance in /sup 88/Sr, /sup 90/Zr, /sup 140/Ce, and isotopes of Sn and Pb (energies of 1/sup +/ levels, values of B (M1, 1/sup +/..-->..0/sup +/), ..gamma..-absorption cross sections) are calculated in the theory of finite Fermi systems. The effect of pairing on the M1 resonance is analyzed. Comparison with analogous calculations for E1 and E2 resonances shows that the ..gamma..-absorption cross sections with excitation of individual 1/sup -/, 2/sup +/, and 1/sup +/ levels are comparable with one another. Also calculated are the probabilities of low-energy M1 transitions and magnetic moments of the ground states and excited states for odd nuclei near /sup 208/Pb. With the exception of the probabilities of forbidden M1 transitions, satisfactory agreement with available experiment is obtained.
