Vapor-phase heterogeneous catalytic hydrogenation of acetone. III. Kinetics and mechanism of acetone hydrogenation on cobalt and nickel blacks. Effect of the particle size and nature of the metal on the catalytic activity

It is shown here that the mechanism and kinetics of the vapor-phase hydrogenation of acetone in isopropanol on cobalt and nickel, without support and on deposited catalysts studied previously (Co/A1/sub 2/O/sub 3/, Ni/Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/), are identical. The catalytic activity of the transition metals increases with a decrease in the adsorption coefficients of the initial reagents and an increase in the average size of the crystals of the metallic phase.
