Letter (from Dr. Winkler to Dr. Schunck) concerning an experiment at 700 atm using Ruhroel catalyst on lignite middle oils (in German)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7220553
This letter gave suggestions as to how the prospective experiment should be carried out. The suggestions included the following: The starting material should be pure lignite A-middle oil, but since its phenol content of 10 percent might damage the catalyst, the B-middle oils resulting from the process should be mixed in as soon as possible to lower phenol content of the starting material. The oven should be heated to a temperature of 26.0 millivolts and kept there for 24 hours without introducing starting material; after starting material had been successfully introduced, the temperature should be slowly raised to 26.5 m.V. The product:gas ratio should be 1:3000, with the gas being recirculated gas with a hydrogen content of about 85 percent. The pressure at the beginning should be 700 atm, and the loading at the beginning should be 0.2 kg/l/hr. The goal to be aimed for was a gasoline concentration of no more than 60 percent in the separator with distillation cutoff of 165/sup 0/C for a column distillation or 170/sup 0/C for Engler-distillation. To reach that goal, the loading should be gradually increased, but if the goal had not been reached when the loading reached 1.5 kg/l/hr, then instead of further loading increase, the pressure should be gradually reduced until the goal was reached.
