Commercial aspects of Utah's oil-impregnated sand-stone deposits

Journal Article · · Interstate Oil Compact Comm. Com. Bull.; (United States)
OSTI ID:7220412
Utah contains 51 deposits or groups of deposits of tar sands. Four minor or small deposits occur in the northwest, southwest, and far southeast parts of the state. The 25 deposits in the Uinta Basin of northeast Utah contain an estimated 10.81 billion bbl of oil in place. The 22 in the central southeast contain an estimated 14.32 billion bbl. The total for Utah is 25.13 billion bbl in about 90 to 95% of the mapped resource of oil-impregnated rock in the U.S. This 25 billion bbl is estimated from a small amount of definitive data and is probably conservative; it certainly does not represent the amount of oil that is recoverable.
