I. G. specifications for steels K2A, N5A, N5B, N5C, N1K, N8A, N9, and N-10

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7220093
Five separate papers are included concerning five different materials; steel K2A, N5 replacement material (N5A, N5B, N5C, N1K) N8A, N9, and N10. Such information as method of smelting, chemical composition, tempering standards, weldability, directions for heat treatment, piping, local treatment of welds, markings of materials, hardness, method of production, and uses were given for the various materials. Yield points, tensile strengths, and elongation were given as far as tempering standards are concerned. Weldability data involved were flush welding, electric arc welding, and oxy-acetylene welding. Some of the data for the K2A steel also applies to the K2M steel. Chemical composition for K2A was given as 0.22 to 0.28% C, 1.10 to 1.40% Mn, 0.4 to 0.6% Si, 0.08 to 0.15% V, 0.05% S and 0.05% P. Composition of N5A was given as 0.07 to 0.13% C, 2.5 to 2.8% Cr, 0.3 to 0.5% Mn, 0.4% Si, 0.03% S, and 0.03% P. Composition of N8A was given as 0.19 to 0.24% C, 2.0 to 2.3% Cr, 0.2 to 0.3% V, 0.3 to 0.5% Mn, less than 0.4% Si, 0.03% P and 0.03% S. The composition of N9 was 0.18 to 0.25% C, 2.5 to 2.8% Cr, 0.2 to 0.3% Mo, 0.55 to 0.65% V, 0.3 to 0.5% Mn, less than 0.4% Si, 0.03% P, and 0.03% S. The composition of N10 was given as 0.18 to 0.25% C, 2.7 to 3.0% Cr, 0.70 to .085% V, 0.3 to 0.5% Mn, 0.4% Si, 0.35 to 0.45% Mo, 0.30 to 0.45% N, 0.03% P and 0.03% S.
