Results of /sup 131/I-19-iodocholesterol adrenal scintiscons, venograms, and venous aldosterone levels are compared with histologic findings in 33 patients submitted to surgery for primary aldosteronism. Data are included from studies on synthesis and tissue distribution in laboratory animals and man of /sup 131/I-, /sup 125/I-, or /sup 75/Se-labeled cholesterols, enzyme inhibitors that will concentrate in the adrenal cortex or medulla, and antibodies to dopamino-beta-hydrolase.
