Accident analysis by functional classification for bituminous coal mines in 4-foot to 8-foot seam heights. Open file report, 1971--1972

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7218224
The report presents an abbreviated summary of the accident information developed for the Inherently Safe Mining System (ISMS) project. The objective of the report is to provide information on accidents to individuals in the bituminous coal mining industry in a form it is believed is not currently available from other sources. The hope is that presentation of the information in this manner will enable industry members to focus their accident prevention and safety education efforts on the paramount problems by explicitly and qualitatively defining the problems relative to each other. The primary objective of the ISMS program is to reduce the occurrence of fatal accidents. A secondary objective is to reduce the frequency of nonfatal accidents. Progress toward one objective leads to programs in the other, which is compatible with the overall objective of increasing safety in underground coal mines. (Author) (GRA)
