Synthesis of volatile uranium compounds. [U(CF/sub 3/)/sub 6/; W(CF/sub 3/)/sub 6/]
Most of the effort was spent on an attempt to synthesize U(CF/sub 3/)/sub 6/. First experiments were conducted using tungsten as stand-in for uranium; reaction of C/sub 2/F/sub 6/ plasma with sublimed WCl/sub 6/ and WBr/sub 6/ or with a W mirror produced an unstable solid which is believed to be W(CF/sub 3/)/sub 6/. UCl/sub 6/ was also prepared and reacted with C/sub 2/F/sub 6/ plasma; the product was then fractionated and studied. (DLC)
