Scalar contribution to radiative decays of the eta meson. [eta. -->. pi. /sup 0/. gamma gamma. ,. pi. /sup +/. pi. /sup -/. pi. /sup 0/. gamma. ,. pi. /sup +/. pi. /sup -/. gamma gamma. ]

We study the role which scalar mesons play in the radiative decays of the eta meson. A scalar-meson model involving the delta (970) is proposed to describe the three radiative eta decays: eta ..-->.. ..pi../sup 0/..gamma gamma.., eta ..-->.. ..pi../sup +/..pi../sup -/..pi../sup 0/..gamma.., and eta ..-->.. ..pi../sup +/..pi../sup -/..gamma gamma... Using the experimental width for eta ..-->.. ..pi../sup 0/..gamma gamma.. we determine the delta-..gamma..-..gamma.. coupling and calculate the decay rates for the four-body eta decays. The results are compared with the experimental data.
