An industrial laminate manufacturer, the Synthane-Taylor Corporation, resolved air pollution and rising fuel cost problems with innovative energy and environmental planning because of the company's policy of not taking on large capital expenditures and passing the cost on to consumers. Using a system designed by Combustion Equipment Association, Inc., process fumes are incinerated, with heat recovery producing process steam that offers the advantages of no capital outlay for a combustion system, lower operating costs, and recycling of odors and solvents. A four-component system, including boilers, thermal oxidizers, multi-purpose Double-Vorten Burners, and a steam accumulator, produces a reliable source of steam with efficient combustion. The company now has capacity for growth and is an economic and environmental asset to the community. (DCK)
