The planning for Carter Mining Company's Rawhide 12 million tpy surface coal mine is described. Overburden varies from zero to 250 ft (average 100) and two coal seams 22 ft and 82 ft thick and separated by a 6 ft shale parting are involved. Mining will be by a truck/shovel/scraper combination. Mine design, storage and terminal facilities for unit trains are described. Plans for spoil bank reclamation involve revegetation and unplanted areas will be ripped in the fall to create a rough surface and improve moisture accumulation. (LTN)
