Widely varying hikes seen in incremental gas pricing

President Carter's proposed policy of incremental pricing for natural gas will increase industrial rates by varying amounts according to pipeline and utility calculations. The proposal will give industrial, large commercial, and utility users the burden of paying increases up to $3.00 per thousand cubic feet beyond the average price paid by a pipeline over the previous 12 months. Beyond the $3.00 limit, increases will be shared by all customers. A survey of those expecting a higher share of high-priced synthetic and liquefied natural gas was made to see what effects are anticipated. The survey, covering twelve pipeline and utility companies, outlines their present status and pricing plans. (DCK)
