Two-million-electron-volt injector for pulsed betatron

The schematic and the construction of an injector designed for a maximum electron energy of 2 MeV are described. The injector was developed for a pulsed coreless betatron with an equilibrium-orbit radius of 23.4 cm. The current of the injected beam amounts to approximately 120 A in a pulse approximately 10/sup -6/ s long. The accuracy with which the current pulse is synchronized with the phase of the magnetic field is approximately 10/sup -8/ s.
