Injury to vegetation and animal life by smelter wastes

This paper examines injury to plants and animals located in the areas around smelters. The introduction to the paper discusses the process of extraction of metals from ores and the resulting wastes. The first section of this paper examines the action of sulfur dioxide on plants. The second section examines actual field investigations of areas around smelters in California and Tennessee. The last section discusses methods for detecting smelter wastes in foliage, soils, water, cattle food, and ores. 14 tables.
