Radical formation and the catalytic activity of pentasil zeolites in unsaturated hydrocarbon conversions. i. radical formation on adsorption of olefins

The formation of radicals during the adsorption of structurally different olefins on pentasil zeolites at -78/sup 0/C and 20/sup 0/ C was studied. Adsorption at 20/sup 0/ C is accompanied by oligomerization and the formation of secondary radicals. Processes on pentasil and H-mordenite were analogous, while differences in the structure of the radicals were associated with the shape and size of the channels. In the case of adsorption of branched olefins on pentasil it is assumed that a certain fraction of the radicals is formed on the external surface of th zeolite.
