Study of low-frequency oscillations and the acceleration of ions in a beam-plasma discharge

Low-frequency oscillations in a beam-plasma discharge are investigated. It is shown experimentally that the excitation of low-frequency ion-acoustic and drift oscillations is related to the rapid heating of the electrons in the inhomogeneous plasma. A mechanism for the excitation of low-frequency oscillations is proposed. The acceleration of ions in the electric field of these oscillations is investigated. (AIP)
