Kinetics of the reaction of benzoyl chloride with alkali-metal azides in a solvent of low polarity

The kinetics of the heterogeneous reaction of benzoyl chloride with lithium, sodium, and cesium azides have been examined in o-xylene solution, and the specific rates and energies of activation determined. The activation energy has been found to depend on the energy of rearrangement of the crystal lattice when the azides are replaced by the chlorides of the appropriate metals.
