This brief article describes synergistic interactions that would have a destructive impact on the environment: the role of chlorofluorocarbons linking the phenomena of ozone-layer depletion and the greenhouse effect; stresses on tropical forests (over-logging, agricultural settlement, and excess UV-B radiation due to ozone-layer depletion) that increase the susceptibility of the tract to injury from acid rain; increase in vulnerability to UV-B as a result of acid rain. Recognizing possible synergisms in advance may allow scientists to anticipate and even prevent some of the adverse repercussions.
