Radionuclide study of bone allografts. [Dogs, /sup 99m/Tc]

Conference · · Transplant. Proc., Suppl.; (United States)
OSTI ID:7187414
A method of deriving quantitative radionuclide data from dog mandibles that have received allogeneic bone grafts is described. Intravenous injections of /sup 99m/Tc-stannous diphosphonate were given and the grafted mandibles were imaged with a scintillation camera. The distribution of tracer in the images reflected local variations in osteogenic activity and vascularity. The comparability of lyophilized allogeneic and fresh autogenous bone transplants was demonstrated. Although the method is sensitive, it does not identify the specific biologic processes occurring during graft repair. (HLW)
