The region of existence of uranium(IV) in the ionic and colloidal states at concentrations of it in solution of 10/sup -6/ to 10/sup -7/ M was established by the methods of ultrafiltration, centrifugation, electromigration, and adsorption on glass. It was shown that in the interval of values pH 1.0 to 2.9, uranium(IV) exists in solution in the form of ions, while at values of pH greater than 3.0 it begins to manifest colloidal properties. The manifestation of colloidal properties by uranium(IV) in the interval of pH values 3.0 to 9.0 is associated with the adsorption of uranium on colloidal contaminations of the solution; with increasing pH greater than 9.0, true negatively charged colloids of uranium(IV) begin to be formed in solution.
