Experiments on continuous transverse discharges in channel waveguides with flowing CO/sub 2/ gas mixtures. Final technical report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:7185168
Experiments on cw transversely excited (TE) flowing CO/sub 2/ gas mixtures are described. Several discharge and flow geometries at pressures up to 1 atm have been used to determine discharge properties in the channels used. Optical gain has not been measured in these channels but analysis of the experimental results indicates how optimum population inversion is to be obtained. The analysis also reveals that prevention of glow to arc transitions in these cw TE discharges requires that one operate within certain physical parameter ranges. Such parameters are identical to those which optimize population inversion.
