Levels in {sup 184}Pt were studied from the decay of mass-separated {sup 184}Au by gamma-ray and conversion-electron spectroscopy and by gamma-ray angular distributions from low-temperature nuclear orientation. In addition to coexisting {ital K}{sup {pi}}=0{sup +} bands, coexisting {ital K}{sup {pi}}=2{sup +} bands are observed at low energy. String interband electric monopole transitions are observed between states of the two {ital K}{sup {pi}}=0{sup +} bands and also between states of the two {ital K}{sup {pi}}=2{sup +} bands. The coexistence of {ital K}{sup {pi}}=2{sup +} bands at low energy represents a new type of collective structure.
