Reuse of depleted metal in 1500 and 2004 tube files
The possibility has been discussed of reworking the uranium in the waste disposal tanks and exposing the depleted slugs in the fringes of the 105 piles. A quantitative analysis of this proposal shows that it permits a saving by a factor of the order of two or three in consumption or virgin metal. About 30 percent of this saving must be renounced if the size of the pile is reduced from 2004 to 1500 tubes.
