Synthesis of O,O,S-trialkyl phosphorothioites

The authors have developed a convenient method for the preparation of the O,O,S-trialkyl phosphorothioites consisting in the phosphorylation of 1-butanethiol, ..cap alpha..-toluenethiol, and ethyl mercaptoacetate with diethyl 1-methyl-3-oxo-1-butenyl phosphite. The phosphorylation of the thiols was conducted over a period of 4 days, and the yields of the O,O,S-trialkyl phosphorothioites attained 66%. The structures of the compounds synthesized were confirmed by their /sup 1/H and /sup 31/P NMR spectra.
