The Bypass 601 (Martin's Scrap Recycling) site is listed on the National Priorities List. The two-acre site primarily is a battery salvage and metal recycling operation. Past practices included disposing of waste acid on-site or selling it for reclamation, and using spent battery casings for fill material on-site. Maximum environmental contamination on-site consists of arsenic, cadmium, and lead in soil; arsenic, cadmium, and lead in surface water; and arsenic, cadmium, lead, and chromium in groundwater. From the information available, the site is considered to be of potential public health concern due to the risk caused by the possibility of exposure to hazardous substances via surface water, sediments, and groundwater.
