A MRF is the solution for Cass County, Texas
Cass is a small rural county near the Louisiana border with nine incorporated cities. Even though its population is only 30,000, Cass County had 11 landfills--one every seven miles--until Subtitle D forced them to close. The costs for the county landfill were escalating, and the landfill was nearing its capacity. A commission with a representative from each city looked at the options and decided to construct a materials recovery facility (MRF). The facility is designed for 200 tpd and it's already at 50 tpd. Fifty percent of what was expected in aluminum a year, was received in the first six weeks. Operations have outperformed expectations. To date, 75% of the waste stream has been recovered.
