Isospin-symmetry violation in light nuclei

Thesis/Dissertation ·
OSTI ID:7166437
The effects of isospin-nonconserving (INC) forces on the properties of light nuclei are studied within the framework of the nuclear shell model. An INC interaction is determined empirically by requiring that it reproduce experimental isotopic mass shifts. Using this interaction and other recent improvements in nuclear models the following problems are investigated: corrections to the Fermi matrix element for superallowed ..beta..-decays, isospin-forbidden Fermi ..beta..-transitions, and the decay of T = 3/2 states in A = 4n + 1 nuclei (21 less than or equal to A less than or equal to 37) to the J..pi.. = olt. slash0/sup +/, T = 0 ground state of A = 4n nuclei by isospin-forbidden proton and neutron emission.
