Reactions of Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/ with W and WO/sub 2/ at high temperatures in hydrogen and in vacuum

The conditions of the reduction and oxidation of the components of the mixture Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/ + W by hydrogen with different moisture contents were investigated. It is shown that the primary reaction product is WO/sub 2/. The reaction of Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/ with WO/sub 2/ in vacuum takes place with formation of the compound AlWO/sub 4/ and evolution of free W. The structure of AlWO/sub 4/ has been established, and the possible reactions taking place in the system Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/ + W at high temperatures in hydrogen and in vacuum have been examined.
