Pyrolysis of lignocellulosic materials. Phenolic constituents of a wood pyrolytic oil

Journal Article · · Wood Fiber; (United States)
OSTI ID:7152319
The phenolic fraction of liquid pyrolytic oil from pine sawdust and bark wastes contained PhOH, cresols, guaiacol, 2,4-dimethylphenol, 4-Me, 4-Et and 4-propylguaicol, eugenol, and isoeugenol as detected by gas chromatog.-mass spectroscopy. The total phenolic content was 13.34% of total pyrolytic oil when detected gravimetrically, but only 3.1% of oil could be accounted for by the chromatography method, indicating that approx. 75% of the phenolic fraction is nonvolatile and polymeric material.
