The authors study the reaction of dibutyluranocene with 4-nitrostilbene (4-NS) which may be considered a nitrobenzene having a styryl substituent at C-4. In order to study the effect of alkyl substituents in the uranocene molecule on the observed cis-trans isomerization of nitrostilbenes, the authors examined uranocene without substituents ( (dicyclooctatetraene)uranium and didecyluranocene 1,1'-di (decylcyclooctatetraene)-uranium). The authors found that the introduction of two n-butyl groups into uranocene leads to a decrease in the isomerization, while the introduction of two n-decyl groups leads to the complete disappearance of this process.
