Diode laser spectroscopy of the [nu][sub 8] band of chlorofluoromethane

The infrared spectrum of the [nu][sub 8] band of natural CH[sub 2]FCl has been recorded at a resolution of about 0.002 cm[sup [minus]1] in the range 1,201--1,270 cm[sup [minus]1] using a tunable diode laser spectrometer. This vibration of symmetry species A[double prime] gives rise to a c-type band. The rovibrational analysis in the P, Q, and r branches led to the assignment of 1,932 and 542 transitions belonging to the [sup 35]Cl and [sup 37]Cl isotopomers, respectively. From a simultaneous fit of GSCD of this work and the [nu][sub 3] band, together with the literature microwave data, an improved set of ground sate constants up to the quartic terms has been obtained using Watson's A-reduction Hamiltonian in the I[sup r] representation. A least-squares fit of the identified transitions provided excited state parameters of the [nu][sub 8] band for both isotopic varieties with a standard deviation of about 6 [times] 10[sup [minus]4] cm[sup [minus]1].
