Diquark clusters in the quark-gluon plasma

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. D; (United States)

We explore the possibility that pairs of quarks will form diquark clusters in the density regime above the deconfinement transition for hadronic matter at finite density. We use a simple model and find that the spin interactions of quarks provide a significant lowering of the energy for diquark combinations. A modified P-matrix method is used in order to calculate the density dependence of this effect. It is found that, within the model, a diquark configuration has a lower energy than a quark gas for a significant range of densities above deconfinement, although at very high densities a free quark phase is preferred.
