Solutions of sigma-cresulphthalexone S (o-KFS) (10/sup -3/M), cetyltrimethylammonium (10/sup -2/M), NaF, and EDTA solutions were used. Complex formation of rare earth elements with o-KFS is most complete at pH 5.5 to 6, and the absorption of the complexes is highest at pH 8 to 9 for Pr and pH 7 to 8 for Er. Results show that it is possible to determine Sm, Eu, and Gd in the presence of La, Ce, Er, Tm, Yb, and Lu. The method was verified using Eu in binary Pr to Er mixtures. (DLC)
