SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF RARE EARTHS IN SOLUTIONS OF ETHYLENEDIAMINETETRA-ACETIC COMPLEXES (in Russian)
To eliminate the effect of other elements on the value of the maximum absorption of rare earths, it was found expedient to carry out their absorption- spectrophotometric determination in solutions of ethylenediaminetetra acetic complexes. The absorption spectra of aqueous solutions of Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, and Yb complexes were studied. It was established that on complexonate formation most of absorption band maxima shift to higher wave lengths by 1-6 m mu . Certain absorption maxima, Er is an example, were observed to shift to lower wave lengths. The peak heights of many rare earth absorption bands in this case often increase 1.1-2.6 times, which. to a certain extent, increases the sensitivity of the method, At rare earth concentration (as oxides) about 10 mg/ml the optimum conditions for the photometric determination were the complexone III concentration of 0.1M, and the pH of the solution 8-9. Conditions were established for the determination of Pr, Nd, and Sm in a mixture of cerium rare earths in complexonate solutions; the sensitivity of the method was 0.03 mg/ ml of Pr/sub 6/O/sub 11/ and Nd/sub 2/O/sub 3/ and 0.07 mg/ml of Sm/sub 2/O/s ub 3/. It was shown that under the conditions iound the interferences were eliminated to a considerable degree in the presence of ammonium nitrate when Pr, Nd, and Sm were determined, and in the presence of ammonium acetate, when Nd was determined.
