D sup 0 -- D sup 0 mixing and CP violation: Experimental projections for a. tau. -charm factory

This report presents the results of a set of feasibility studies for observing D{sup 0}--{bar D}{sup 0} mixing and CP violation in the proposed high luminosity {tau}-charm factory. These studies are not yet complete, but clear general conclusions can already be drawn. In particular, a year of running with 10{sup 33} luminosity would allow observation of D{sup 0}--{bar D}{sup 0} mixing at the level of 10{sup {minus}4} to 10{sup {minus}5}, consistent with standard model expectations, while CP violation in the D system could be probed at the 10{sup {minus}2} level. 7 refs., 3 figs., 4 tabs.
