Proposed geothermal legislation 1981

The factors deemed most important by industry for inclusion in new geothermal legislation are discussed. These factors are: (1) increased acreage allotments, (2) redefinition of KGRA's, (3) tax credits for geothermal exploration and development. The current legislative acreage allotments of 20,480 acres/state do not permit an active exploration company to hold sufficient federal acreage in a given state to satisfy the acreage needed for more than two projects within the state (assuming the prospects are on federal lands). The designation of an area as a KGRA should be made at the time of filing an application for a lease instead of at the time of lease issuance. (MJF)
