Since the average U.S. urban concentration of nitrogen oxides in air is 20-25 times above natural atmospheric conditions, air quality standards have been established for this pollutant. Physical property data on nitrogen oxides is important for the design engineer. The physical and thermodynamic properties of nitrogen oxides, such as nitrous oxide, nitric oxide, and nitrogen dioxide, are described. These include vapor pressure, critical properties (temperature, pressure, and volume), heat of vaporization, heat capacity, density, surface tension, viscosity, thermal conductivity, and heat and free energy of formation.
